Christian Eriksen has declared he ‘must be one of the luckiest guys on the planet’ after technology spared his blushes during Tottenham’s dramatic Champions League quarter-final second leg against Manchester City.
Leading on the away goals rule with the aggregate score level at 4-4 heading into the final moments of the game, it looked like Spurs had thrown it away in second-half injury time when Raheem Sterling seemingly completed his hat-trick to make it 5-4 to City.
However, VAR overturned the decision when replays showed that Sergio Aguero was in an offside position when supplying the assist for Sterling.
And the Denmark international was the most relieved player on the pitch after that, as it was his misjudged pass that led to City getting control of possession before the England forward found the back of the net.
“I must be one of the luckiest guys on the planet tonight,’ Eriksen told BT Sport in his post-match interview.
“I thought it was all over but It was a fun game. It was a rollercoaster. We gave them a lot but also got a lot – it was a weird game.”
