Injuries and suspensions are part and parcel of football, everyone knows this, but that does not make it any easier to deal with especially when they are all in one position.
Manchester United have something of a defensive crisis on their hands at the moment and will be without four of their full-backs for tomorrow’s clash with West Ham at Old Trafford, LIVE on talkSPORT.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admits Man United are struggling to find a couple of full-backs for the Hammers visit, just days after losing 1-0 to Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final.
Ashley Young and Luke Shaw are suspended and Antonio Valencia is not fully fit, meaning Matteo Darmain and Marcos Rojo may have to be brought in, despite their lack of playing time this season with both featuring in a combined 10 matches.
LATEST PREMIER LEAGUE NEWS
Shaw picked up his tenth booking of the season against Wolves, meaning he will be suspended for two matches, while Young was the recipient of Mike Dean’s 100th red card after a challenge on Diogo Jota.
The absence of such key personnel could not have come at a worse time for Solskjaer, who has watched his side lose four of their last five matches, dumped out of the FA Cup and drop to sixth in the Premier League, as both Arsenal and Chelsea continuing their relentless pursuit of Champions League football.
â€Å“We don’t have full-backs this week,” Solskjaer told MUTV.
â€Å“Not too many as we’ve lost Luke and Ashley through suspension. Antonio is still not fit.
â€Å“Maybe Matteo [Darmian] will be available for the bench and Rojo has been training for a while.
â€He’s available and we’ve got Jonah [Phil Jones], who could also play there.
â€Å“Rojo needed to get out on the big pitch [in the Under-23s’ game against West Brom last Friday] so he could have that game but we’ve had a couple of practice matches so let’s see what we decide.â€
United know they can not afford to lose Saturday’s late kick-off or they risk falling further away from the top four.
