Christian Pulisic has not ‘mastered’ the skill of staying fit, according to United States legend Alexi Lalas.
It has not been an easy season for Pulisic, the Chelsea-bound midfielder, who has been plagued by leg injuries and lost his place in the Borussia Dortmund team to England international Jadon Sancho.
And Pulisic’s latest setback came as the United States drew 1-1 with Chile on Tuesday.
He opened the scoring for his country, becoming the youngest ever American to score ten international goals, before limping off with a groin problem in the 36th minute.
It is the fifth minor injury Pulisic has suffered this season, adding to the spate of knocks the youngster had to deal with last term.
He has started just six Bundesliga games for Dortmund in 2018/19 due to his issues staying fit, as well as a loss of form, and Lalas believes Pulisic’s recent injury record is a worry.
Asked on Twitter if the 20-year-old’s injuries are a cause for concern, Lalas, who made 96 appearances for the USMNT, said: “Sure.
“Staying healthy is a skill. He has yet to master it.”
Pulisic joined Chelsea in a £58million deal in January, but was loaned back to Dortmund for the rest of the season.
He has struggled for game time throughout 2018/19 with Sancho preferred in attack in place of the US starlet.

Sancho has scored eight goals and registered 12 assists since August.
His form has reportedly put the £100million-rated winger on Manchester United’s radar.

However, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc ruled out the possibility of Sancho following Pulisic out of the door this summer.
He told German outlet Bild: “I’m far from putting a price tag on Jadon.
“His transfer would be difficult even for the biggest clubs in the world at the moment. Jadon will play for Borussia Dortmund next season.”
