Manchester City are looking to beat rivals Manchester United to Sporting Lisbon’s highly rated captain Bruno Fernandes.
United face City in a crucial Premier League clash on Wednesday night but it’s not just on the pitch where they’re set to do battle.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to land the Portugal international as part of his summer rebuilding plans.
However, reports in Fernandes’ homeland claim City have the edge to get his signature having opened secret negotiations with Sporting officials and the player.
It is understood Sporting’s director of football, ex-Newcastle midfielder Hugo Viana, has had a meeting with his City counterpart Txiki Begiristain.
Fernandes has an £87million buy-out clause in his Sporting contract, which runs until 2023.
