Manchester United transfer news: Barcelona want to sign Juan Mata on a free transfer this summer – reports

Juan Mata is a summer transfer target for Barcelona this summer, according to reports.

The Manchester United midfielder is out of contract in the summer and negotiations over a new deal are yet to talk place.

And, according to The Sun, Barcelona have made contact with Mata’s father and agent Juan Sr to begin talks for a multi-year deal.

The Catalan giants see the move as a great bit of business. With Mata unlikely to demand regular game time, a rotational role will suit the Spaniard.

And, should the 30-year-old become unhappy, he can then be sold on for a profit.

Although he has been hampered by a hamstring injury in recent weeks, the former Chelsea midfielder has made just five starts under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Mata did start the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Watford on Saturday, but it remains to be seen if he has a future at Old Trafford beyond the end of the season.

The midfielder is not the only star whose future is unclear, with David De Gea and Paul Pogba also unsure as to where they will be plying their trade.

Pogba has openly spoke of his ‘dream’ to Real Madrid, with Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane also seemingly keen to make the move happen.

And De Gea has also been linked with the Spanish giants since 2015 and is yet to sign a new deal, but he is close to signing a £350,000-per-week contract amid reported interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Roman Abramovich still loves and is passionate about owning Chelsea, says David Luiz 'I had the opportunity to talk with him last week, to decide my future. He loves the club and everything that is inside the club, not just the people.
