Daniele De Rossi has taken the hard decision to finally leave Roma.
It won’t have been easy for the midfielder, who has been a part of the first team since making his debut for his boyhood club 2001.
Such is his love of Roma, he even turned down the Manchester City money machine in 2012.
“I’m staying for this team, for the affection of the fans, because I am a Roman and because I believe in this project,” the midfielder said at the time.
“I feel good here. I haven’t asked anyone to leave. What I promise is that the day I want to leave Roma to win the Champions League or to earn more money, I’ll say so publicly.”
City, Premier League champions and managed by Roberto Mancini at the time, had been pursuing De Rossi for months and a £30m transfer had been mentioned as well as wages of around £130,000 a week.

But loyal De Rossi never wanted to leave.
However, there was one thing that excited him about the thought of playing for City – meeting Noel and Liam Gallagher due to his love of Oasis.
“They’re the band from my teenage years. I grew up listening to them and I know all their songs off by heart,” he once told the Roma website.
“I liked those guys, they were real characters. They weren’t always conventional or very easily approachable but I really liked the stereotype they represented – rock stars off their heads.”
This, after all, is a man who has a tattoo of a triangular ‘Hazard’ warning sign on his right leg warning opponents of his fearlessness in the tackle.
In addition to the Gallagher brothers, De Rossi could have met another idol of his, Roy Keane.
The former Manchester United captain is the reason he wears no.16 for Roma – as well as Gaia, his daughter, who was born on the 16th.
“He’s the only person in the world I’ve asked for a photo, two years ago,” he explained. “I was too embarrassed with [Diego] Maradona but I couldn’t resist with him.”
He also lists another Man United legend as one of his favourites.
“I was a striker growing up and [Eric Cantona] was the epitome of a bad boy genius. He had character, charisma and a touch of aggressiveness. All attributes which – despite the fact that he occasionally went a little overboard – if managed well are crucial for a footballer.
“He really entertained me and was another of my great heroes.”
