Daniel James: John Hartson tells talkSPORT Swansea City winger and Leeds United target now worth £30million

Daniel James could be worth £30million in the summer, according to former Wales international John Hartson.

James scored his first goal for Wales on Sunday in just his second appearance as they beat Slovakia 1-0.

The Swansea City winger has impressed in the Championship this season where he has scored twice and got four assists.

The 21-year-old particularly caught the eye against Manchester City in the FA Cup when his devastating pace helped the Welsh club go 2-0 up before going on to lose 3-2.

Leeds United chased James throughout the January transfer window and a deal was in place for him to move there.

He had his medical on deadline day but the deal collapsed when Swansea failed to sign off on the move.

And Hartson now believes the fee Leeds were going to pay for James could treble in the summer.

“He’s got a bright future,” Hartson told talkSPORT at the launch of the BT Sport Pub Cup.

“He scored a goal in his second cap where he was starting on the left-hand side. He has ridiculous pace and played well against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

â€Å“He was almost out of the door and was up at Leeds signing for £10million and he brought him back.

â€Å“I think that will treble now with the market the way it is.”

Laurence Bassini has completed his takeover of Bolton Wanderers, talkSPORT̢۪s Jim White has revealed.

Bassini was revealed as the man who was primed to buy the club from Ken Anderson earlier this month and save the club form impending liquidation.

talkSPORT host Jim White received a call from Laurence Bassini

It would appear that the deal has now been completed, with White exclusively revealing on Hawksbee and Jacobs that Bassini is the new Bolton owner after speaking to the 49-year-old earlier in the day on Wednesday.

He said: â€Å“I took a call from Laurence Bassini who tells me the deal is done. He is the new owner of Bolton Wanderers.

â€Å“He says he has inherited a mess but will sort it out.”

The British businessman, whose ill-fated spell in charge at Watford lasted only 13 months, joined talkSPORT host Jim White for a rare interview.

Bassini has twice been declared bankrupt and was banned from owning an EFL club for three years in 2013 for alleged financial misconduct.

He has since been cleared to return to football by the EFL, though.

â€Å“If it wasn’t my love and affection for football and this club, I wouldn’t be coming back,” Bassini said in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT.

â€Å“I think Bolton is a great, great club. I looked at it two years ago before Mr Anderson.

“They’re a great club and they deserve more. I think they have the potential to return to the top.”

Current owner Anderson bought a stake in the club during that buyout and took majority control in 2017 after Sports Shield went into liquidation.

The club’s players went on strike for the second time in a year after staff were not paid in March.

It is the second month in a row that Bolton employees have not been paid on time.

Their relegation to League One appears inevitable as they are 10 points adrift with four games to go.

If results go against them on Friday their relegation will be confirmed.

Non-league wondergoal ‘BETTER than Gazza’s volley against Scotland at Euro 96’, says Ally McCoist

Ally McCoist believes a non-league wondergoal that became a viral hit may be better than Paul Gascoigne̢۪s legendary volley against Scotland at Euro 1996!

Bromsgrove Sporting FC striker Jason Cowley became an internet sensation when a clip of his stunning goal against Corby Town was posted online last weekend.

Gazza’s goal against Scotland – and his celebration – is one of the most iconic in England’s football history

Gazza’s goal against Scotland – and his celebration – is one of the most iconic in England’s football history

His wonderful strike quickly drew comparisons with Gazza’s famous goal for England – which you can watch here, because why not? – as he flicked the ball over a defender’s head before slotting a perfectly-executed volley into the left corner.

McCoist, who was in a mischievous mood on Wednesday̢۪s Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT, came on as a substitute in that memorable game at the old Wembley.

And he poked fun at his old Rangers team-mate, and sensationally claimed the non-league star̢۪s strike may well be better than Gazza̢۪s.

McCoist: â€Å“I’m telling you, I reckon it might just have been better than Gascoigne’s against Scotland in ’96.”

Seaman: â€Å“No chance! It can’t possibly be!”

McCoist’s tongue was firmly in his cheek, though, as he later admitted Gazza’s strike was ‘one of the THE great goals’ in world football history.

Chelsea news: ‘Aston Villa are miles behind,’ says Tony Cascarino in response to Dean Saunders claiming Villa are a bigger club

Tony Cascarino has set the record straight after Dean Saunders’ bold claim that former club Aston Villa are ‘bigger than Chelsea’.

Cascarino, who played for both clubs, agrees the West Midlands side have a rich history but in reality they are now ‘miles behind’ the London giants.

3

Villa will be back in the Premier League next season, having ended their three-year stay in the Championship by beating Derby County in the play-off final last month.

And Saunders unwittingly found himself trending on social media after he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast:

“The owner of Chelsea has got more money than Villa, so he has made Chelsea into a big club. But actually, traditionally, Aston Villa are a bigger club than Chelsea if you go back over the years. They’re a massive club, they’ve won everything.”

Dean Saunders discusses which club is bigger between Chelsea and Aston Villa

The Welshman’s comments sparked a huge reaction online, with Villa fans hailing him as a legend while Blues and neutral supporters thought he’d lost the plot.

Not all with Villa allegiances agreed, though, with Carscarino and fellow former claret and blue striker Darren Bent both insisting Chelsea have eclipsed the 1982 European Cup winners.

Cascarino told talkSPORT on Thursday: “The answer is obviously difficult because in different periods one club has been bigger than the other.

“But, if you’re looking at the last decade, Villa are miles behind Chelsea.

“If you want take it back further, Andy Townsend left Chelsea to go to Villa in the early 90s, that’s when Villa were a very strong club and they were even stronger in the early 80s when they were European Champions.

“When I joined Villa, I knew I had joined a big club. I loved being there, I wore the number 9 shirt Peter With had worn and wore it with great pride.

“Of course Villa was a huge club at that particular time, but if we’re talking about the last decade – no.”

Ex-Villa striker Darren Bent added: “Yeah I agree.

“Villa are obviously a massive club, but if you talk about right now you’ve got to say Chelsea.

“They won the Champions League not that long ago, they’re always winning trophies and have won Premier Leagues.

“It’s not like the Manchester United/Manchester City situation where United are a bigger club because their history is still quite recent, but Aston Villa’s [success] was a while ago compared to what Chelsea are doing now.

“You’ve got to be honest and right now I think everyone would say Chelsea.”
